Spanish lyric soprano Sylvia Schwartz is a celebrated recitalist, described by the Guardian as “a rising star” in her debut recording on the Hyperion label with Malcolm Martineau. In 2016-2017 her operatic engagements included performances at Teatro Real Madrid, her debut at the Bergen National Opera, and with the Budapest Festival Orchestra at the Edinburgh International Festival. With pianist Olivier Godin, in her first North American appearances, she performed a gorgeous program of German and Spanish songs.

A native of Montreal, Olivier Godin is a collaborative pianist and vocal coach at McGill University, directs the opera studio at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, and has an extensive discography as an accompanist and ensemble pianist.

Joseph So gave the “exquisite vocalism” of the recital a warm review.

In the near-capacity audience were students from two Scarborough schools, and a group of New Canadians taking advantage of the Cultural Access Pass.
