The Women’s Musical Club of Toronto, producers of Music in the Afternoon, acknowledges that this land is the traditional territory of many nations, including the Wendat, the Haudenosaunee, the Chippewa, the Anishnabeg, and the Mississaugas of the Credit. Walter Hall, where we gather, stands above Taddle Creek, which was a traditional pathway for cultural exchange.
The WMCT acknowledges that we have benefitted from these Indigenous peoples’ displacement, and that these acknowledgments are hollow without a real effort to counter the effects of social structures that have served to enable and perpetuate injustice against Indigenous people.
As settlers, we commit to listen and learn as we actively work towards reconciliation.
We are grateful for the opportunity to make and experience music on this land.
