Welcome to the 120th season of Music in the Afternoon : a landmark anniversary in an outstanding history of concerts.
We also, of course, celebrate the 150th anniversary for Canada and, I am proud to say, my own 10th anniversary as WMCT Artistic Director. Such an auspicious series of anniversaries demands an auspicious series of concerts.
I am very excited to offer the North American recital debut for Spanish soprano Sylvia Schwartz and to present much-loved Canadian virtuoso violinist Lara St. John in Shiksa. The Zodiac Trio pluck significant works from the 120-year history of the WMCT, and the Elias Quartet brings a weighty program of major material. The season closes with CelloDrama! – my own program celebrating the instrument that has been my musical voice for almost my entire life. These events deliver a broad cross-section of musical repertoire from artists primed to bring dazzling life to every note — you really should hear every one of those notes!
