Women's Musical Club of Toronto supports exceptional young Canadian musicians through substantial career development awards, scholarships, and performance opportunities. Annual scholarships at the Faculty of Music (University of Toronto) and The Royal Conservatory of Music, and the WMCT's triennial Career Development Artist of the Year Award have helped launch critically acclaimed artists like Teresa Stratas (1958, voice), Robert Aitken (1961, flautist), Mary Lou Fallis (1969, voice), Jane Coop (1970, pianist), and Russell Braun (1989, voice).

Scholarships

Women's Musical Club of Toronto Entrance Scholarship - $5,000
Awarded annually to a student entering the Performance Program of the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto. The scholarship is granted based on the entrance audition and academic achievements. The student must be a Canadian Citizen or landed immigrant.

The Women's Musical Club of Toronto Centennial Award - $5,000
Established in 1997-1998 as part of the WMCT Centennial Celebrations, it is awarded annually to a graduating student from the Performance Program of the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto. The student must attain an annual grade point average of 3.5 or above, and have the intention to pursue a career as a concert musician and be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.

Women's Musical Club of Toronto Ottilie M. Gunning Memorial Scholarship - $5,000
Awarded annually to a piano student, who displays musical excellence, and is entered in a performance degree programme at The Royal Conservatory of Music. The student must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and may receive this scholarship only once.

Women's Musical Club of Toronto and the Women's Musical Club of Toronto Centennial Foundation 110th Anniversary Scholarship - $5,000
Established in 2008 and awarded annual to a student at The Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory of Music. The recipient must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.

Women's Musical Club of Toronto and the Women's Musical Club of Toronto Centennial Foundation - Summer Music Scholarship - $2,000
A scholarship granted to a student in the Master Classes for Strings and Winds, who is a resident of Toronto and a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, at The Banff Centre in Alberta.

Fellowship

Women's Musical Club of Toronto/Women's Musical Club of Toronto Centennial Foundation Graduate Fellowship
Established with a gift of $25,000 from the WMCT and the WMCT Centennial Foundation, and matched by the University of Toronto, to create an endowment that will sustain an annual award in perpetuity for an outstanding graduate student in Performance in the Faculty of Music. The recipient must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.

Scholarships and the fellowship are administered by the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto, The Royal Conservatory, and The Banff Centre. Interested students should contact the administrative office at their school for more information.

Awards

Career Development Award
The Women's Musical Club of Toronto Career Development Award was established in 1989. This $15,000 award is aimed at assisting exceptional young Canadian musicians who have already embarked on a professional performing career, and furthering that career through a recital in the Women's Musical Club of Toronto's Music in the Afternoon concert series.

The Award is a project of the Women's Musical Club of Toronto, in partnership with CBC Radio Music and Espace Musique de Radio-Canada, and is funded by the Women's Musical Club of Toronto Centennial Foundation. The $15,000 award includes the fee for the recital at the WMCT Music in the Afternoon concert series.

Nominations for the award are made by CBC regional music producers from across Canada and juried by established and well respected Canadian musicians and conductors.
