Concert Series
As
advocates in cultivating world-class music in Toronto, the WMCT
presents an annual series of five concerts. The series is a
unique blend of solo and recital chamber music, each season
featuring a variety of instrumentalists and vocalists. Musicians
who are on the threshold of international recognition, as well
as established artists and ensembles, are presented in concerts
open to the public.
Historically
the WMCT's concert series brings international talent to Toronto.
Murray Perahia, Leontyne Price, Andres Segovia, Elly Ameling,
Robert Aitken, and the Julliard String Quartet all made their
Canadian debuts at Music in the Afternoon. As well, the list
of illustrious Canadians who have performed for the Club includes
Maureen Forrester, Glenn Gould, Mary Morrison, Greta Kraus,
Catherine Robbin, Michael Schade, Angela Hewitt, James Ehnes,
and Measha Brueggergosman. John Terauds, music critic said in
the Toronto Star said: “this venerable afternoon- music
presenter…has a long and honourable history of introducing
new talent.”

musical lights of each generation."
Tuning
Your Mind
This
pre-concert lecture series for WMCT subscribers is offered in
partnership with the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto, precedes each
concert and enhances the musical experience of members. Organized
by Faculty of Music’s Dr.

into the series.
Student
Outreach Programme
Through
its Student Outreach Programme, the WMCT shares its passion
for classical music by offering public school groups from the
GTA complimentary tickets to its concerts. As well, faculty
and students from The Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory,
the Faculty of Music, U of T, and the Department of Music, York
University, also enjoy this privilege.
Master
Classes and Commissions
Each year the WMCT sponsors one or two master classes for performance
students of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music.
The classes are led by guest artists on the season’s concert
schedule.
The WMCT commissions each year a composition from a Canadian
composer which is given its world premiere at a WMCT concert
that season.
